Dr. Melissa Teply is a practicing internist and palliative medicine physician at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). She received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, and then completed her internal medicine residency training at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI. After three years in primary care practice, she returned to fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She has returned to her home town with hybrid practice in primary care and outpatient palliative care as well as serving as the fellowship program director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship at UNMC.
Dr. Teply is passionate about working with patients and families who are living with serious illness. She believes in a holistic, team-based approach to personalize the care of patients and families with the goal of supporting and empowering them to live as well as possible in the face of serious illness. Dr. Teply is also dedicated to the education of future and current healthcare professionals with the goal of improving communication skills to have honest and compassionate conversations about serious illness.
