Maria Werner-Wasik, MD, FASTRO
Walter W. Curran Professor of Radiation Oncology, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University
Enterprise Vice-Chair for Radiation Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center – Jefferson Health
As an academic radiation oncologist specializing in thoracic and central nervous system tumors, Dr. Maria Werner-Wasik is interested in clinical trials for patients with those two types of malignancies. She is particularly interested in the delicate balance between therapeutic intensification and toxicity management, as well as in PET-based responses to radiation therapy in lung cancer. Dr. Werner-Wasik is the contact principal investigator for NRG Oncology at TJUH, supervising NRG operations at Jefferson and 34 affiliate institutions. In the Department of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Werner-Wasik directed the overall operations of the clinical trials as the director of Clinical Research, and is now moving toward radiation oncology integration across our network as the iintegration vice-chair. She also leads the program of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for early-stage lung cancer and lung metastases. This program is an extension of our Department’s long-term experience in brain stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy for both benign and malignant brain tumors, as well as tumors metastatic to the spine.
