David Weinberg MD, MSc received his undergraduate education at Yale University, graduating magna cum laude in 1984. He subsequently attended Cornell University where he received the Research Thesis Award and was elected to the AOA honor society. He completed his medical residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and his gastroenterology fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania. He also received a Masters’ degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Cancer Epidemiology.
From 1995 to 2001, Dr Weinberg was on the Gastroenterology Faculty at Thomas Jefferson University. He then moved to Fox Chase Cancer Center to assume the title of Chief of the Gastroenterology Section. In 2007, he became the first Chairman of the new Department of Medicine at Fox Chase. In subsequent years, he received the Audrey Weg Schaus and Geoffrey Alan Weg Chair in Medical Science. Outside of Fox Chase, he has held leadership positions at the National Cancer Institute, the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Gastroenterological Association. He sits on the editorial boards of multiple publications including Gastroenterology and the Merck Manual.
Dr Weinberg’s research interests center on gastrointestinal cancer prevention and control. He has received continuous NIH funding to support his research efforts since completing his training. He has over 250 peer reviewed publications.
