Telehealth – The Future of Medical Care Delivery
As healthcare strives to connect an expanding pool of patients to their health care providers, Telehealth is poised for massive growth. Telehealth broadens access to healthcare, increases efficiency while reducing costs, and enhances patient safety, quality of care, patient satisfaction, and health outcomes. As Telehealth expands and is adopted by more hospitals, there is an emerging need for trained professionals who will effectively and efficiently deliver telehealth services. Soon telehealth programs will not be able to run without a Telehealth Facilitator, however formalized training is scarce and underdeveloped. In response to this need, a Telehealth Facilitator Certificate Program was designed by the National Academic Center for Telehealth at Thomas Jefferson University.
Telehealth Facilitator – a Key Component of Telehealth Delivery
The goal of the program is to prepare you for a role in telehealth facilitation as part of the inter-professional healthcare team by providing both telehealth content expertise and telehealth facilitation competencies. You will develop the skills to successfully facilitate, evaluate, and advocate for telehealth in their departments and organizations.
As a Telehealth Facilitator you will:
- Facilitate conversation between patient and provider
- Initiate the encounter, manage the interface between doctor and patient and address all technical challenges that may arise
- Ensure a sound and successful, professional medico-legal, culturally sensitive experience for the patient
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

This educational activity is designed for physicians and nurses interested in developing skills to facilitate, evaluate, and advocate for telehealth in their departments and organizations.
Following the completion of the educational activity, learners will be able to:
- Describe Telehealth and its corresponding technologies.
- Discuss the applications, benefits and challenges of Telehealth delivery.
- Examine the telehealth facilitator role within a telehealth team.
- Explain the general set-up and physical exam strategies during Telehealth encounters.
- Use a plan to solve common technical difficulties encountered during a simulated encounter.
- Analyze the ethical, legal, and regulatory considerations of Telehealth.
